Terms & conditions

These terms govern the application for, and awarding of, bursaries by The Cape B.O.D. Bursary Foundation. You will be asked to confirm that you have read, understood and agree to them as part of the declaration in your application.

1. The Foundation

  • The Cape B.O.D. Bursary Foundation (CBODBF) awards bursaries to Jewish beneficiaries resident in the Western Cape for undergraduate and postgraduate tertiary study in any field.
  • The bursary programme is administered and coordinated by the Cape South African Jewish Board of Deputies (BODBC) through its Bursary Committee.
  • Bursaries are funded by donor funds and trusts. The number and value of awards in any year depend entirely on funds available.

2. Minimum entry criteria

  • The applicant must be Jewish.
  • The applicant must reside within the Western Cape province.
  • The applicant must be studying, or intend to study, towards an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification.
  • Study must be at a recognised and accredited tertiary institution (university, technical college or similar) within the Western Cape province.
  • The applicant must be in demonstrable financial need.
  • Failure to satisfy all of the above requirements will result in the application not being considered.

3. Applications

  • Applications must be made on the official application form, completed in full. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • A parent, legal guardian or other representative may complete the form on behalf of the applicant, but the applicant remains the student named in Section A.
  • All supporting documentation listed in the required-documents schedule must accompany the application.
  • Applications close on 31 October preceding the academic year applied for. Late applications are considered only at the discretion of the Bursary Committee.
  • The Bursary Committee may request additional information, documentation or an interview at any stage.

4. Financial disclosure

  • Full and honest disclosure of all household income, expenditure, assets and liabilities is required, including those of both parents or guardians, whether or not they reside together.
  • The applicant and parents consent to the BODBC and CBODBF, or their appointed agents, drawing their credit records from any registered credit bureau.
  • Any material misrepresentation or omission will result in the immediate withdrawal of the application or of any bursary awarded, and repayment of funds already paid may be demanded.

5. Awards and payment

  • Consideration of an application is not a guarantee of funding.
  • Bursaries are awarded for one academic year only. Continued assistance in subsequent years requires a fresh application and is subject to satisfactory academic progress and funds available.
  • Awards are ordinarily paid directly to the tertiary institution against the student's fee account, and not to the applicant.
  • The decision of the Bursary Committee is final and no correspondence relating to the merits of a decision will be entered into.

6. Obligations of the student

  • The student undertakes to apply their best endeavours to their studies and to achieve positive results.
  • The student must advise the BODBC in writing of any change to the information submitted, including any change of course, institution, address or financial circumstances.
  • The student undertakes to acknowledge in writing the donor fund or trust which provided the bursary funds.
  • On completion of studies the student undertakes to furnish the BODBC with a copy of their certificate, and to advise of any change of address thereafter.
  • The student makes a moral commitment, once working, to support The Cape B.O.D. Bursary Foundation to the best of their ability and means, in recognition of the assistance received.

7. Affidavit

  • The declaration in Section E of the application form constitutes an affidavit and must be signed by the applicant and, where applicable, the parents or guardians, in the presence of a Commissioner of Oaths.
  • The signed and witnessed affidavit must be uploaded with the application.

8. Protection of personal information

  • Personal information supplied is collected, processed and retained by the BODBC and the CBODBF for the lawful purpose of assessing and administering bursary applications only.
  • Information is processed in terms of the Protection of Personal Information Act (Act No 4 of 2013) and is disclosed only to the Bursary Committee, its appointed agents, and the relevant donor funds and trusts where required.
  • By submitting an application, the applicant and parents consent to this collection, processing and retention.
